The causes of climate change
The influence humans have on the Planet's climate and temperature change has increased,burning fossil fuels,by cutting down tropical forests and raising animals. These activities generate huge quantities of greenhouse gases, which are added to those already naturally present in the atmosphere,
thus contributing to the greenhouse effect and to global warming.

Greenhouse gases
Some gases from the Earth's atmosphere behave like the walls of a greenhouse - they capture and retain the heat of the sun,so that it is no longer released back into space.
Many of them were naturally in the atmosphere, but human activity has increased the concentration of several, especially:
-Carbon dioxide (CO2)
-Methane
-Oxide
-Of fluorinated gases
CO2 is the gas that is most often generated by human activities through its greenhouse effect, being responsible for 63% of the global warming caused by man.
Other greenhouse gases are emitted into the atmosphere in smaller quantities, but they capture and retain heat more efficiently than CO2,
and in some cases are thousands of times stronger.
Methane contributes 19% to global warming caused by man, and nitrogen protoxide by 6%.
Causes of increased emissions :
-Combustion of coal, oil and gas generates carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide.
-Deforestation
Trees contribute to regulating climatic conditions by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere. Therefore, when cut, this beneficial effect is lost and the carbon dioxide stored by the trees is released back into the atmosphere, accentuating the greenhouse effect.
-Intensive breeding of animals
Cattle and sheep produce large amounts of methane during digestion.
- Fertilizers containing nitrogen generate nitrous oxide emissions.
-Fluorinated gases have a very strong heating effect, up to 23 000 times higher than CO2.Fortunately, they are released in smaller quantities, and EU law provides for a gradual reduction of their use, until completely
eliminated.
